Share Flipkart is preparing to enter India’s online food delivery market within the next month, marking a significant diversification beyond its core e-commerce business. The Walmart-backed company will begin with a pilot rollout as it seeks to challenge established players Swiggy and Zomato in one of India’s fastest-growing digital consumer segments. Speaking about the expansion, Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said the company believes late entrants can still disrupt mature markets through superior execution and a differentiated customer experience. Rather than merely replicating existing business models, Flipkart aims to build a compelling value proposition by leveraging its nationwide customer base, technology platform, and logistics capabilities. Reports suggest the company is expected to integrate its food delivery offering with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), enabling faster onboarding of restaurants and merchants while supporting a more open digital commerce ecosystem. Flipkart’s existing logistics infrastructure and ecosystem businesses are expected to provide a strong foundation for scaling the service across key markets. The planned launch represents another strategic step in Flipkart’s evolution into a broader digital services platform. As competition intensifies across e-commerce, quick commerce, and online food delivery, Flipkart’s entry is expected to reshape the competitive landscape while giving consumers additional choices in India’s rapidly expanding food delivery market.
