India’s rapidly expanding demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital services is creating a major opportunity for the country’s data centre industry. Against this backdrop, hyperscale data centre operator CtrlS Datacenters has secured fresh capital to accelerate its next phase of infrastructure expansion.

Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath has invested ₹200 crore in CtrlS, while entrepreneur Sreeram Reddy Vanga has contributed an additional ₹50 crore, taking the total fresh investment to ₹250 crore.

The funding will be used to expand CtrlS’s infrastructure and build additional capacity as enterprises, cloud companies, financial institutions and government organisations increase their dependence on large-scale digital infrastructure.

Fresh Capital to Support Infrastructure Expansion

The investment comes at a time when India is witnessing a sharp increase in demand for computing power and data storage capacity.

AI applications, cloud adoption and the growing scale of digital public infrastructure are placing greater pressure on the physical systems that support the country’s technology ecosystem. Data centres have therefore become an increasingly important part of India’s broader digital growth story.

CtrlS plans to use the newly raised capital to strengthen its infrastructure platform and meet rising demand from enterprise and hyperscale customers.

For investors, the opportunity is closely linked to the growing importance of data centres in supporting the next generation of technology.

Nikhil Kamath highlighted the long-term significance of the sector, pointing to AI, cloud computing and digital public infrastructure as major technology shifts that will depend heavily on strong underlying infrastructure.

India’s AI Growth Needs Strong Digital Infrastructure

The rapid growth of AI is changing the conversation around technology infrastructure.

While software, platforms and AI models attract significant attention, their growth ultimately depends on access to computing capacity, storage and reliable data infrastructure.

This is where data centre companies are expected to play an increasingly strategic role.

As Indian businesses accelerate their digital transformation journeys and global technology companies expand operations in the country, the need for high-capacity data infrastructure is expected to rise further.

Sreeram Reddy Vanga said India’s ambitions around AI and cloud technologies will require infrastructure capable of supporting growth at scale.

The latest investment reflects increasing investor confidence in this long-term opportunity.

CtrlS Expands Its Growth Ambitions

Founded in 2007 by Sridhar Pinnapureddy and headquartered in Hyderabad, CtrlS has spent nearly two decades building its presence in India’s data centre industry.

The company currently operates 19 data centres across nine major markets in India. It has more than 370 MW of capacity and projects representing approximately 4.4 GW at different stages of development.

CtrlS serves a broad customer base that includes enterprises, cloud providers, financial institutions and government organisations.

The company’s existing operating scale gives it a significant foundation as competition in India’s data centre sector continues to intensify.

The latest funding is expected to help the company move faster on its capacity expansion plans and support the growing requirements of large technology and enterprise customers.

Investment Follows Major CPP Commitment

The fresh ₹250 crore investment follows an earlier commitment of around ₹7,000 crore from CPP Investments to support the expansion of CtrlS.

Together, these investments underline the increasing scale of capital flowing into India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.

Building and operating hyperscale data centres requires substantial long-term investment. Companies need to invest not only in physical facilities but also in power infrastructure, cooling systems, network connectivity and operational capabilities.

As demand rises, access to capital will become increasingly important for companies looking to build capacity at speed.

Competition Intensifies in India’s Data Centre Market

India’s data centre market is expected to grow significantly over the coming years, driven by cloud adoption, AI workloads, digital payments and enterprise technology investments.

The sector is attracting interest from both established infrastructure players and new entrants. Large business groups, including Reliance and Adani, are also increasing their focus on digital infrastructure, adding to the competitive intensity in the market.

This makes operational experience and existing infrastructure increasingly valuable.

With nearly two decades of experience in the sector, CtrlS is looking to build on its established platform while expanding capacity for the next wave of demand.

Data Centres Move to the Centre of India’s Technology Story

India’s technology growth is increasingly being supported by infrastructure that operates behind the scenes.

From AI applications and cloud platforms to digital banking, e-commerce and public digital services, the country’s expanding technology ecosystem depends on reliable and scalable computing infrastructure.

The investment by Nikhil Kamath and Sreeram Reddy Vanga signals growing recognition of this opportunity.

As AI and cloud adoption continue to accelerate, data centres are likely to become an even more critical part of India’s digital economy.

For CtrlS, the latest capital infusion provides additional momentum as it expands its infrastructure footprint and prepares for what could be one of the largest growth phases in India’s data centre industry.
