Share Swiggy has appointed Swapnil Bajpai as Chief Executive Officer of its Dineout and Scenes businesses, placing a seasoned internal leader at the helm of its dining-out and experiences verticals. The appointment reflects Swiggy’s strategic push to expand beyond its core food delivery business and build a broader consumer platform that captures both in-restaurant and experiential spending. Bajpai takes on the role after holding multiple leadership positions within the company across business, supply, sales, and monetisation functions. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and Business Head for Dineout, Assure, and Lynk, where he led growth and operational initiatives across the restaurant ecosystem. This move also marks a transition from a founder-led structure to a more integrated, company-run vertical with defined leadership and profit accountability. Following Swiggy’s acquisition of Dineout in 2022, the business initially continued under its founding team, including Ankit Mehrotra, to ensure continuity. Over time, however, it has been integrated into Swiggy’s broader ecosystem. Swiggy’s dining-out strategy focuses on diversifying into higher-margin services such as restaurant discovery, table reservations, bill payments, and merchant advertising. The addition of Scenes, which centres on events, nightlife, and curated experiences, further strengthens this approach by extending the platform into discretionary spending categories. Unlike food delivery, the going-out vertical operates with a different economic model, benefiting from lower logistics costs and revenue streams driven by commissions, prepaid deals, advertising, and event-based monetisation. This positions the business to improve margins while increasing user engagement across multiple consumption occasions. Bajpai’s background aligns closely with these priorities. During his tenure at Swiggy, he has managed advertising and monetisation across both food delivery and Dineout, in addition to overseeing supply and sales. His experience in scaling monetisation and building value from restaurant networks is expected to play a key role in the next phase of growth. Prior to Swiggy, he worked at Reckitt as Regional Sales Manager and spent a significant part of his career at Procter & Gamble, focusing on trade programmes and go-to-market strategies. The move comes amid intensifying competition in the dining-out space, with rivals like Zomato also investing heavily in restaurant-focused offerings, including discounts, memberships, and payments. As platforms compete to capture a larger share of consumer time and spending, building integrated ecosystems has become a key priority. With Bajpai’s appointment, Swiggy’s Dineout and Scenes verticals enter a new phase focused on scale and consolidation. Key priorities are expected to include expanding merchant adoption, strengthening monetisation through partnerships and advertising, and integrating experiences more deeply into the core platform. For Swiggy, this marks a broader evolution from a delivery-first model to a multi-layered consumer ecosystem. Bajpai’s leadership will be central to how effectively the company executes this transition and builds a sustainable, high-engagement business beyond food delivery.
