Maruti Suzuki India has promoted Saurabh Kumar to Vice President – Human Resources, marking a significant internal elevation that reflects continuity in leadership and a strong focus on talent and organisational capability.

Kumar, who confirmed the development in a LinkedIn post, steps into the role after more than a decade with the company. Over the years, he has progressed through multiple HR leadership positions, most recently serving as Senior General Manager. His earlier roles include Deputy General Manager, Assistant General Manager, and Manager within HR functions, along with leading HR operations at the Manesar plant.

His experience spans key areas such as industrial relations, employee engagement, performance management, talent development, and succession planning, positioning him well to take on a broader strategic role.

In his new capacity, Kumar will oversee critical HR priorities including talent management, leadership training, succession planning, and the digitalisation of HR processes. The expanded mandate reflects the company’s focus on aligning workforce strategy with evolving business needs, particularly in leadership development and digital transformation.

Before joining Maruti Suzuki, Kumar spent over seven years at Tata Motors, where he worked in employee relations. He began his career at Hindalco Industries as a senior officer, building a strong foundation in industrial relations and workforce management. He holds an MBA in Human Resource Management and Personnel Administration from Xavier Institute of Social Service.

The promotion comes within an established HR leadership framework at Maruti Suzuki India, where the focus has increasingly shifted toward integrating traditional HR practices with digital capabilities and long-term talent planning.

Kumar’s journey from operational roles to a senior leadership position highlights the organisation’s emphasis on developing internal talent pipelines. As companies continue to prioritise workforce capability, leadership succession, and digital HR systems, such roles are becoming more strategic in driving long-term resilience and growth.
