Share India has achieved a significant milestone in strengthening its telecom manufacturing ecosystem, with the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for telecom and networking products creating 36,000 jobs while paving the way for the country’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ). The announcement was made by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia during the curtain raiser for India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, highlighting the government’s continued focus on boosting domestic manufacturing and technological self-reliance. The first Telecom Manufacturing Zone will be established in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, through a collaboration between the Department of Telecommunications and the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Designed on a plug-and-play model, the zone is expected to attract substantial investments, encourage indigenous telecom equipment manufacturing, strengthen the supply chain, and generate thousands of additional employment opportunities over the coming years. According to the government, the telecom PLI scheme has so far attracted nearly ₹6,000 crore in investments, generated production worth ₹1.2 lakh crore, and enabled telecom exports valued at ₹25,600 crore. These achievements underline the growing success of India’s manufacturing ecosystem and support the government’s vision of transforming the country from a service-led economy into a globally competitive product manufacturing hub. Looking ahead, the government has set an ambitious target of expanding 5G connectivity to 100 crore users by 2030. Alongside rapid network deployment, initiatives such as the Telecom Manufacturing Zone are expected to drive innovation, attract global investments, create high-quality jobs, and strengthen India’s position as a leading destination for telecom manufacturing and next-generation digital infrastructure.
