HCLTech has announced the acquisition of Guardian India Operations, the Global Capability Centre (GCC) of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, marking another significant step in strengthening its insurance technology and AI capabilities.

The acquisition is part of an expanded seven-year strategic partnership between HCLTech and Guardian that will focus on AI-powered modernisation across technology and business operations. As part of the transaction, nearly 2,000 employees from Guardian India will transition to HCLTech, significantly expanding the company’s talent base in insurance technology, engineering, and digital operations.

To support the partnership, HCLTech will establish a dedicated Strategic Business Unit focused exclusively on Guardian. Karunakaran Azhisur, currently Country Head of Guardian India, will join HCLTech to lead the new business unit, driving technology innovation, operational transformation, and engineering excellence for Guardian’s global operations.

The acquisition also deepens HCLTech’s expertise in the insurance sector, enabling the company to deliver advanced AI-led solutions, cloud modernisation, digital engineering, and operational transformation. For Guardian, the expanded partnership is expected to accelerate technology innovation, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen customer experiences across its products and services.

The transaction reflects the growing trend of Global Capability Centre (GCC) acquisitions by IT services firms as enterprises seek strategic technology partners to drive long-term digital transformation. By combining Guardian India’s experienced workforce with HCLTech’s global delivery capabilities, both organisations aim to build a stronger innovation ecosystem and accelerate AI adoption across the insurance value chain.
