Standard Chartered has appointed Kavita Kulkarni as Chief Technology & Operations Officer (CTOO) for India and South Asia, strengthening its regional leadership team as it continues to expand its technology and operational capabilities. Based in Mumbai, Kulkarni will become a member of the India Country Management Team and will oversee the execution of the bank’s technology and operations strategy while supporting its broader business priorities across the region.

Kulkarni brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across banking, wealth management, and technology. Throughout her career, she has held senior positions at multinational financial institutions in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States, leading large-scale technology transformation, operational excellence, and digital innovation initiatives.

Before joining Standard Chartered, she served as Managing Director and Chief Information Officer for Private Banking and Wealth Management at Barclays Bank. In that role, she led global technology and operations teams, spearheaded technology transformation programmes, and championed the adoption of artificial intelligence and automation across delivery processes. Her experience positions her to drive Standard Chartered’s technology agenda as banking increasingly embraces AI-enabled operations and digital-first customer experiences.

Kulkarni holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Karnataka University and an MBA in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Commenting on the appointment, PD Singh, CEO for India and South Asia at Standard Chartered, said her extensive global leadership experience would help the bank deliver simpler, faster, and more resilient banking experiences while supporting its long-term growth ambitions across the region.

As Chief Technology & Operations Officer, Kavita Kulkarni will play a key role in strengthening Standard Chartered’s digital capabilities, enhancing operational resilience, and driving innovation across India and South Asia as the bank continues to invest in technology-led growth.
