Jindal India has appointed Dr Amit Khanna as Chief Human Resources Officer for its Steel Business, bringing an experienced HR and organisational transformation professional into a key leadership role.

Khanna brings nearly 14 years of experience across human resources, workforce planning, leadership development, organisation design and business transformation. In his new position, he will work across Jindal India’s steel and aluminium operations, supporting people capability, productivity and broader business growth priorities.

His appointment comes as manufacturing organisations continue to place greater emphasis on workforce readiness, leadership pipelines and organisational efficiency.

A long HR career at BIAL

Khanna joins Jindal India after spending nearly 14 years at BIAL, where he most recently served as Assistant Vice President – HR.

During his tenure, he worked across several areas of strategic and operational HR, including workforce planning, organisation design, succession planning, leadership development, culture transformation and HR technology.

His responsibilities also included supporting workforce preparedness for major infrastructure developments at BIAL, including Terminal 2 and the airport’s second runway.

This experience gave him exposure to large-scale workforce planning and organisational change in a complex operating environment.

Building leadership and talent systems

At BIAL, Khanna contributed to the development of structured leadership and talent processes.

He worked on a leadership programme and talent review framework aimed at identifying high-potential employees and strengthening succession pipelines. Such systems are designed to help organisations prepare future leaders while ensuring continuity across critical roles.

Khanna also led the implementation of a cloud-based Human Capital Management system, covering more than 20 HR modules. The initiative supported the integration and digitisation of various HR processes.

His experience reflects a focus on using systems, data and structured processes to improve workforce management and organisational capability.

Experience in organisational efficiency

Khanna’s career has also included work on organisation-wide efficiency and transformation initiatives.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was involved in BIAL’s organisation efficiency programme, which focused on improving operational effectiveness and maintaining cost discipline while taking employee interests into account.

Before and during his broader HR career, he also gained experience through roles and transformation assignments associated with NTPC and Bharti Airtel.

This combination of business-facing HR and organisational transformation experience is relevant to his new mandate within a manufacturing-led business.

New role at Jindal India

At Jindal India, Khanna will be responsible for supporting the people agenda across the company’s steel and aluminium businesses.

His priorities are expected to include strengthening workforce capabilities, improving productivity, supporting organisational transformation and aligning HR programmes with business requirements.

For industrial businesses, people strategy is closely connected to operational performance. Building the right technical and managerial talent, improving workforce planning and developing strong leadership pipelines can play an important role in supporting expansion and long-term competitiveness.

Khanna’s background in workforce readiness, talent systems and organisation design will be relevant to these priorities.

Academic focus on strategic HR

Alongside his professional experience, Khanna has pursued an academic focus on management and organisational capability.

He recently completed a Doctorate in Management from Dayalbagh Educational Institute. His research examined sustainable management, organisational capability and the contribution of strategic HR practices to innovation and long-term business performance.

This academic work complements his professional experience in areas such as workforce transformation, leadership development and organisational effectiveness.

Strengthening people capabilities in manufacturing

Khanna’s appointment signals Jindal India’s focus on strengthening the HR function as it continues to develop its steel and aluminium operations.

His new role will involve connecting people priorities with business performance, from workforce productivity and leadership development to capability building and transformation.

With experience across infrastructure, telecommunications, energy-related environments and large-scale HR systems, Khanna brings a broad perspective to Jindal India’s people leadership team.

His mandate will be to help build a workforce and organisational structure capable of supporting the company’s next phase of growth.
