Biocon has appointed Karthik SM as Head of Human Resources for India, Malaysia, and emerging markets, expanding his leadership mandate across key geographies as the company continues to scale its global operations. The move reflects Biocon’s focus on strengthening HR leadership in response to growing operational complexity and evolving workforce demands.

In his expanded role, Karthik SM will oversee HR strategy and operations across multiple regions, with a focus on aligning workforce capabilities with business growth. His responsibilities will include workforce planning, talent deployment, and driving employee engagement initiatives across geographically diverse teams operating in different regulatory and market environments.

This development highlights the increasing importance of integrated and regionally aligned HR leadership, particularly for companies managing cross-border operations and complex talent pipelines. In sectors such as pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, where organisations are expanding their manufacturing, research, and commercial presence globally, HR is playing a more strategic role in enabling growth and operational efficiency.

Karthik SM brings significant internal experience, having previously held leadership roles within the Biocon group, including at Biocon Biologics. He has led global HR functions, including talent acquisition and workforce management at scale. Prior to joining Biocon, he worked with organisations such as IQVIA and Accenture, gaining experience in talent strategy and organisational transformation across global teams.

By expanding his role, Biocon is reinforcing the link between talent strategy and business expansion. As competition for specialised talent intensifies and regulatory environments become more complex, the ability to effectively manage and deploy talent across regions will be critical to sustaining growth in both established and emerging markets.
