Knight Frank India has appointed Viral Desai as its Chief Executive Officer, with the appointment set to take effect from 1 April 2027.

Desai has spent nearly two decades with Knight Frank India and currently serves as Senior Executive Director, making the transition a significant leadership milestone within the organisation.

His elevation comes as the real estate advisory firm continues to strengthen its business across India while deepening its connections with the wider Knight Frank network across Asia-Pacific and international markets.

A leadership journey spanning nearly two decades

Desai joined Knight Frank India in 2007 and has progressed through a series of senior responsibilities during his tenure.

In his current position, he oversees multiple key business verticals, including:

  • Occupier Strategy & Solutions
  • Industrial & Logistics
  • Capital Markets
  • Retail Agency

This diverse portfolio has given him exposure to several major segments of India’s commercial real estate market and positioned him for a broader leadership mandate.

Bringing an international perspective

Alongside his responsibilities in India, Desai is an International Partner at Knight Frank and serves as a member of the firm’s Group Strategy Board.

These positions provide him with exposure to the firm’s international strategy and markets beyond India, adding a global dimension to his experience.

His upcoming CEO role will therefore combine deep knowledge of the Indian real estate market with an understanding of Knight Frank’s international operations and strategic priorities.

Focus on India’s evolving real estate market

The Indian real estate sector has continued to evolve with changing occupier requirements, growth in industrial and logistics infrastructure, increasing investment activity and expanding demand for specialised advisory services.

Desai’s experience across occupier strategy, capital markets, industrial and logistics, and retail gives him exposure to several of these growth areas.

As CEO, he will take on a wider responsibility for guiding Knight Frank India’s business and strengthening its position across key real estate segments.

Strengthening regional and global connections

The leadership transition comes at a time when real estate markets are becoming increasingly interconnected across regions.

Knight Frank India’s growing engagement with markets across Asia-Pacific and the firm’s broader international network creates opportunities for cross-border collaboration, capital flows and global occupier relationships.

Desai’s existing involvement with the Group Strategy Board provides an established connection to this wider ecosystem as he prepares to take on the CEO position.

From senior executive to CEO

Desai’s appointment represents a progression built largely within Knight Frank India itself.

Having joined the firm in 2007 and moved through increasingly senior responsibilities, he brings a detailed understanding of its business, clients and market operations.

With his CEO appointment effective April 2027, the next phase of his leadership will focus on building on Knight Frank India’s existing capabilities while strengthening its presence across India’s evolving real estate landscape and its international network.
