Swiggy has announced three senior leadership appointments across its quick-commerce and food delivery businesses, giving expanded mandates to experienced internal leaders as the company focuses on growth, technology and operational efficiency.

The company has appointed Himavant Kurnala as Chief Growth and Product Officer (CGPO) for Instamart, Nitesh Garg as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Instamart, and Saurav Goyal as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Food Marketplace.

The leadership changes underline Swiggy’s continued preference for developing talent from within while placing experienced executives in roles critical to its next stage of business expansion.

Three leaders take on larger mandates

The latest appointments span three critical areas of Swiggy’s business—growth and product, technology, and operations.

The new roles are:

  • Himavant Kurnala – Chief Growth & Product Officer, Instamart
  • Nitesh Garg – Chief Technology Officer, Instamart
  • Saurav Goyal – Chief Operating Officer, Food Marketplace

According to Swiggy, all three executives have played important roles in building and scaling their respective businesses and are now taking on wider responsibilities.

Swiggy’s CHRO Girish Menon highlighted the company’s focus on internal talent development and creating opportunities for employees to move into larger leadership positions.

Kurnala to lead Instamart’s growth and product agenda

Himavant Kurnala has been associated with Instamart’s product organisation since 2024 and subsequently took on responsibilities covering growth and brand marketing.

In his expanded role, he will bring together Product, Growth, Marketing and Analytics, giving him a broad mandate across the customer and commercial side of Instamart.

During his tenure, Kurnala has been involved in several initiatives aimed at improving the quick-commerce experience and strengthening the business’s technology and commercial capabilities.

These have included:

  • AI-powered search and personalisation
  • Pricing and merchandising capabilities
  • Instamart’s standalone application
  • Multi-pod delivery
  • Maxxsaver
  • Brand portal monetisation
  • Supply-chain optimisation

Swiggy said these initiatives contributed to improvements in user activity, order volumes and advertising revenue while supporting more efficient customer acquisition.

Garg takes charge of Instamart technology

Nitesh Garg, who has spent more than seven years with Swiggy, has been elevated from Senior Vice President to Chief Technology Officer for Instamart.

Garg has been closely involved in building Instamart’s engineering organisation and technology infrastructure since its early stages.

His experience covers consumer-facing platforms as well as technology systems supporting the supply chain. He has also worked on platforms related to:

  • Advertising
  • Pricing
  • Discounting
  • Product catalogue management
  • Platform reliability
  • Technology architecture
  • AI-enabled capabilities

Several of the platforms developed under his leadership have also found applications across other Swiggy businesses.

His new mandate comes as technology becomes increasingly central to quick commerce, where factors such as real-time inventory, intelligent recommendations, pricing, delivery optimisation and customer personalisation directly influence business performance.

Goyal moves into Food Marketplace COO role

Saurav Goyal has been appointed Chief Operating Officer for Swiggy’s Food Marketplace, expanding a leadership journey that began with the company in 2020.

His experience at Swiggy spans business finance, strategic planning, driver and delivery operations and profitability initiatives across both Food Marketplace and Instamart.

Goyal has also contributed to several strategic initiatives, including Swiggy’s IPO journey and the development of its driver and delivery ecosystem.

He was involved in launching the Toing shared delivery network model across more than 50 cities and bringing together Operations, Product, Analytics and Marketing functions within the Driver & Delivery organisation.

As COO, he will continue overseeing Driver and Delivery operations while taking on responsibility for Food Customer Experience.

Internal mobility remains a key theme

The latest appointments highlight a broader trend in India’s technology and consumer businesses: internal leadership development is becoming an important part of succession planning and organisational growth.

Rather than relying solely on external hiring for senior positions, companies are increasingly elevating executives who already understand their products, customers, technology platforms and operating models.

For Swiggy, the three appointments bring continuity while also giving experienced leaders larger ownership areas.

Instamart remains a major growth engine

The leadership changes come as Swiggy continues to expand its presence in quick commerce.

Instamart currently operates across 131 cities, while Swiggy’s Food Marketplace serves customers across more than 720 cities through a network of over 270,000 restaurant partners, according to the company.

The scale of these businesses means that leadership priorities are increasingly shifting towards improving unit economics, technology infrastructure, customer experience and operational efficiency alongside geographic expansion.

A broader leadership evolution at Swiggy

The latest elevations are part of a wider series of leadership changes across Swiggy.

The company has previously appointed Nandita Sinha as CEO of Instamart and Gautam Swaroop as Chief Business Officer of Instamart. Swapnil Bajpai has also taken on the role of CEO for Swiggy’s Dineout and Scenes business, while Sidharth Bhakoo continues as Chief Business Officer for Food Marketplace.

Together, these changes point towards a more specialised leadership structure across Swiggy’s growing portfolio of consumer businesses.

Building the next phase of growth

Swiggy’s latest leadership reshuffle brings together three areas that will be critical to the company’s future—customer growth, technology and operational execution.

For Instamart, the combination of product, growth and technology leadership comes as quick commerce becomes increasingly competitive and technology-intensive.

For Food Marketplace, strengthening operational leadership and customer experience will remain important as the business continues to expand its restaurant network and geographic reach.

The internal elevations also send a strong signal about Swiggy’s approach to talent: developing leaders who have grown alongside the business and giving them larger mandates as the organisation scales.
