Share Emami Group has announced plans to invest ₹400 crore in a greenfield food park in West Bengal as it accelerates its expansion into the packaged foods segment. The project will be developed by Emami Agrotech, the group’s foods business, and is aimed at consolidating the manufacturing of staples, spices, and its newly launched snacks portfolio under one integrated facility. The investment marks a significant step in Emami’s strategy to diversify beyond its traditional edible oils business into higher-value food categories. The announcement comes alongside the launch of WeMe, Emami Agrotech’s new packaged snacks brand, signalling the company’s entry into India’s fast-growing snacks market. The group plans to invest nearly ₹750 crore in the snacks business—including manufacturing infrastructure and brand development—with the objective of building WeMe into a ₹1,000 crore brand over the next five to seven years. By expanding into higher-margin categories, Emami aims to strengthen profitability while broadening its presence across India’s packaged food industry. In addition to expanding its manufacturing footprint, Emami is also preparing Emami Agrotech for a future initial public offering (IPO). The diversification into packaged foods is expected to enhance the company’s valuation and position it as a broader food business rather than solely an edible oils company. The proposed food park is expected to create approximately 4,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities while supporting the growth of the state’s food processing ecosystem. The investment reflects Emami’s long-term vision of building a diversified food business driven by innovation, value-added products, and modern manufacturing. As consumer demand for packaged and convenience foods continues to rise, the company is positioning itself to capture new growth opportunities while strengthening its presence across India’s evolving FMCG landscape.
