Hindustan Zinc Ltd. has appointed Amarendu Prakash as its Chief Executive Officer and Whole-Time Director, effective August 1, 2026. The appointment marks a significant leadership transition for the Vedanta Group company as Arun Misra completes his tenure on July 31, 2026. The Board approved the appointment based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

Amarendu Prakash brings more than 30 years of experience in India’s steel industry. Before joining Hindustan Zinc, he served as Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), where he led initiatives focused on operational excellence, capacity expansion, digital transformation, sustainability, and business performance. During his long career at SAIL, he also held several senior leadership positions across major steel plants, contributing significantly to the organisation’s growth and modernisation.

His appointment comes at a time when Hindustan Zinc is delivering strong financial performance. Alongside the leadership announcement, the company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹5,469 crore for the first quarter of FY27, representing a 145% year-on-year increase. The strong results were supported by higher zinc and silver prices, improved production levels, and stronger by-product realisations, reinforcing the company’s position as one of the world’s leading integrated zinc producers.

As CEO, Amarendu Prakash will lead Hindustan Zinc’s strategic growth agenda, focusing on operational efficiency, sustainable mining practices, innovation, and long-term value creation. His extensive experience in leading large-scale industrial operations is expected to support the company’s next phase of expansion while strengthening its leadership in the global metals and mining industry.
