Share Bosch has announced a surprise leadership change, appointing Christian Fischer as its new Chief Executive Officer following the resignation of Stefan Hartung, who is stepping down at his own request. The transition comes as an unexpected move, particularly because Hartung’s contract had been extended until 2031 less than a year ago. According to the company, the decision was made in mutual agreement with shareholders, with Hartung choosing to pursue new social commitments and entrepreneurial opportunities outside Bosch. Fischer will officially assume the CEO role on July 1, 2026. Hartung joined Bosch’s Board of Management in 2013 and became Chairman and CEO in 2022. During his tenure, he led the company through a period marked by rapid technological change, electrification, software-driven mobility, and significant restructuring across its automotive business. He also oversaw strategic investments in emerging technologies while implementing measures to improve profitability amid challenging market conditions. Christian Fischer is well positioned to ensure leadership continuity. A member of Bosch’s Board of Management since 2018 and Deputy CEO since 2022, he has worked closely with Hartung on the company’s long-term strategy and played a central role in major initiatives, including portfolio expansion and business transformation. His familiarity with Bosch’s strategic direction is expected to support a seamless transition. The leadership change comes at a critical time for Bosch as the global automotive industry faces slowing demand, rising costs, supply chain pressures, and the accelerating shift toward electric and software-defined vehicles. The company has also been implementing restructuring measures to strengthen competitiveness and improve operational efficiency. With Christian Fischer taking the helm, Bosch is expected to continue executing its transformation strategy while focusing on innovation, operational excellence, and long-term sustainable growth in an increasingly competitive global market.
