Share Indian Railways has recruited 43,781 candidates during FY 2025-26, marking a significant step in its ongoing efforts to strengthen workforce capacity across the organization. The appointments were made against 47,084 notified vacancies spanning multiple categories, including Assistant Loco Pilots, Technicians, Junior Engineers, Paramedical staff, and Railway Protection Force personnel. The progress was reviewed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and technology adoption in the recruitment process. The review highlighted Indian Railways’ focus on modernizing hiring practices to ensure faster and more efficient candidate selection. A key component of the transformation is the introduction of a structured annual examination calendar. The initiative is designed to provide greater predictability for job aspirants, helping candidates plan their preparation while enabling Railway Recruitment Boards to conduct examinations in a more organized and timely manner. Indian Railways is also expanding the use of computer-based and tablet-based examinations to improve operational efficiency and reduce the scope for manual intervention. These technology-enabled processes are expected to enhance the speed, fairness, and reliability of large-scale recruitment exercises. Several recruitment drives remain underway, with more than 32,000 additional Level-1 vacancies in the pipeline. The organization continues to undertake one of the largest public-sector hiring programmes in the country, reflecting its commitment to workforce expansion and operational excellence. The latest recruitment figures underscore Indian Railways’ broader objective of building a future-ready workforce while leveraging technology to create a more transparent, efficient, and candidate-friendly hiring ecosystem. As modernization efforts continue, the organization is expected to further strengthen its recruitment framework to meet growing operational and infrastructure demands.
