BMW Appoints Dorothea von Boxberg as Board Member for Human Resources

BMW Group has appointed Dorothea von Boxberg as its new Board Member for Human Resources, effective September 1, 2026, strengthening its executive leadership as the company continues its transformation in an increasingly competitive global automotive market.

Von Boxberg joins BMW from Brussels Airlines, where she currently serves as Chief Executive Officer. She succeeds Ilka Horstmeier and will oversee the company’s global human resources function, labour relations, and people strategy during a period of significant organisational and technological change.

A seasoned business leader, von Boxberg brings more than two decades of experience in aviation and corporate transformation. Before becoming CEO of Brussels Airlines, she served as CEO and CFO of Lufthansa Cargo and held several senior leadership positions across the Lufthansa Group in strategy, sales, customer experience, and network development. Her career began at Boston Consulting Group before she transitioned into the aviation industry.

BMW said her appointment reflects the company’s focus on leading organisational transformation while responding to the industry’s shift toward electrification, digitalisation, and greater operational efficiency. Supervisory Board Chairman Nicolas Peter noted that von Boxberg brings extensive transformation experience along with an external perspective that will support BMW’s future development. CEO Milan Nedeljkovic added that the company must continue adapting its structures and ways of working to meet evolving market demands.

As Board Member for Human Resources, Dorothea von Boxberg will play a key role in shaping BMW’s global workforce strategy, leadership development, and organisational capabilities as the company prepares for the next phase of growth and transformation.
