Share Cadence Design Systems has named Dr Alok Jain as Managing Director for India, placing a seasoned internal leader at the helm of its operations in a market that is becoming increasingly important to the global semiconductor ecosystem. In his new role, Jain will be responsible for overseeing the company’s business strategy, operations and growth initiatives in India, with a focus on expanding engineering teams, driving innovation and strengthening partnerships across industry, academia and government. India has emerged as a critical hub for Cadence, with a significant portion of its global workforce based in the country. A large share of these teams contribute to core research, product engineering and advanced design technologies, making India central to the company’s global R&D strategy. Jain has been associated with Cadence for nearly three decades, having joined the organisation in 1997. Over the years, he has held multiple leadership roles and currently serves as Vice President in the System Verification Group. He has also been closely involved in building and scaling the company’s operations in India, including its presence in Noida. With over 35 years of industry experience, Jain brings deep expertise in semiconductor design and verification. His professional journey includes contributions to advanced engineering solutions, along with a strong track record in leading high-performing technical teams. His appointment comes at a time when India is actively working to strengthen its semiconductor design and manufacturing ecosystem, supported by policy initiatives, industry collaboration and investments in skill development. Cadence has played a longstanding role in this ecosystem. Since entering India in 1987, the company has collaborated with institutions such as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), AICTE, IITs and several leading engineering colleges, contributing to talent development in chip design and electronic systems. Beyond his role within the company, Jain has also been associated with industry bodies such as the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) and the VLSI Society of India, contributing to broader ecosystem development. Academically, he holds a BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi, along with MS and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He has authored more than 30 technical papers and holds multiple patents in verification technologies, reflecting his contributions to the field. Commenting on the appointment, Anirudh Devgan, President and CEO of Cadence, highlighted Jain’s deep technical expertise and long-standing leadership within the organisation, noting that India continues to be a key driver of the company’s global innovation and growth.
