Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd (ABFRL) has announced a planned leadership transition at Pantaloons, naming Suraj Bahirwani as CEO designate, with full responsibilities set to be assumed from October 1, 2026.

As part of a structured succession plan, Bahirwani will step into the role of CEO designate from April 1, 2026, allowing for a gradual transition into the top leadership position. This phased approach is aimed at ensuring business continuity while preparing the next phase of leadership for one of the company’s key retail brands.

Current CEO Sangeeta Tanwani will continue to lead Pantaloons until September 30, 2026, following which she will transition into an advisory role. In this capacity, she will work closely with the leadership team on strategic priorities before retiring on January 31, 2027.

The development is part of a broader leadership reshuffle within ABFRL. The company has also announced key appointments across its portfolio, including leadership changes in business and finance roles, reflecting a larger effort to strengthen its executive bench.

Pantaloons remains a critical growth driver within ABFRL’s multi-brand retail portfolio, catering to evolving consumer preferences in India’s fast-changing fashion landscape. With competition intensifying in the organised retail sector, the company is focusing on leadership continuity, operational stability, and future-ready strategy.

The planned transition underscores ABFRL’s intent to build a strong leadership pipeline, ensuring that its brands are well-positioned to scale and adapt to the next phase of growth in India’s retail market.
